How to Start a Boys & Girls Club in Indian Country for your Community

BGCA-Native services will share best practices in creating, developing and enhancing quality youth programming in and around low income housing units that serve Native populations.  Our course will inform attendees on how developing quality youth programming address’ several key issues, namely mental wellness, education, resiliency, physical and nutritional health and substance abuse. Boys and Girls Clubs in Indian Country has established a proven model of significance as it pertains to addressing these needs.

Over the past 25 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) has established an enduring presence on Native Lands and has committed to improving the capacity of Boys & Girls Clubs to serve a greater number of Native youth. We have dramatically increased our impact by improving our Clubs’ ability to build and sustain strategic collaborations with Tribal leaders and key stakeholders. These Clubs offer opportunities to provide Native youth with ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, a safe place to learn and grow, life-enhancing programs, character development experiences and, most of all, hope and opportunity.

 

Training Objectives:

Attendees will walk away with:

  • Tools needed to start a program such as a Boys and Girls Club in their communities
  • Learn what resources are available to enhance youth programming
  • Get best practices in running a youth program in both a non-profit organization structure and also under a tribal government
  • Gain additional knowledge on how Native youth programming that strengthens youth’s cultural identity through programming that explicitly promotes positive youth growth and development along critical cultural, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical dimensions through viable and sustainable organizations
