Internal Controls Under NAHASDA

Internal Controls in the form of Policies and Procedures must reflect an organization’s vision, mission, and priorities, as well as its boundaries and limitations. This session provides an overview of how to develop the most effective way to: (1) create policies and procedures that readers can and will use; (2) write clear, concise and accurate policies and procedures; (3) design manuals for readability; and (4) handle the planning and implementation challenges involved in writing policies and procedures.

Training Objectives:

Attendees will learn the following about Internal Controls:

  • Create a reasonable assurance that the entity is managing its award in compliance with regulations
  • Benefits and risks, critical protections, planning, analyzing, researching, and writing
  • Narrative vs. Technical, and a positive approach
  • Common mistakes, proof reading, and editing

  • Vince Franco joined the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Native Learning Center in 2011.  Before joining the NLC, he was the Executive Director of the Marine Industry Education Foundation of Palm Beach County – a 501 (c) (3) charitable nonprofit organization that supports youth oriented programs.  In that capacity, he developed and managed numerous fundraising and outreach events, including conferences and workshops, specialized training programs, unique tournaments and outings, as well as scholarships and endowments, planned giving, and grants.  Prior to working in Florida, he held the position of Executive Director of the Central Pennsylvania College Foundation and the Vice President of Education for Associated Builders and Contractors, Keystone Chapter near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Vince has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Northern Illinois University.
